Hello BaseKiteers and welcome to our first proper Monday Update!
Considering the last Monday Update was on Thursday we don’t have a huge amount to report. Some – not much!
- We’ve added a few new pages to the BaseKit site! Check out the Community page where you can interact with other BaseKit users and check out BaseKit all over the web.
- You can also check out the Support page – where you can find a FAQ and access our Get Satisfaction if you have any problems or suggestions. We’re happy to help!
- And if you’ve tried BaseKit and want to start subscribing – check out the Pricing page. (Although you really should check out the Offers first to see what you can save!)

Also, we havn’t mentioned this on the blog yet, but we’ve hooked up with the excellent people at iStock Photo to bring you a web design competition of epic proportions. All you have to do is design a website using iStockphoto.com images and build it on BaseKit. Then enter your design by 2 May 2010 to stand a chance of winning some enormous prizes including iPads, Wacom Tablets, iPods and iStock credits. Head over here for full details.
Webinars will be running this week at these times – Sign up to find out how to get the best out of BaseKit!

Last Friday Team BaseKit headed out to the Forest Of Dean to celebrate the launch of the new site by climbing trees, swinging like Tarzan and clambering all over all manor of high ropes on a GoApe day out. We all had a fantastic time, Kudos to the GoApe team who made sure none of us died, and to BaseKiteer Sarah who organised the whole thing. You can check out some pictures here (more coming soon) and over at out Flickr account (more coming soon here too!)

If you’ve been watching the BaseKit twitter or Facebook page, you may have noticed us announcing times of BaseKit webinars every few days.
So, what is a ‘BaseKit Webinar?’
Essentially it’s a Web based seminar – hence the name!
So – what happens in a BaseKit webinar? (Probably a better question!)
When you log into a BaseKit webinar you will see a screencast from BaseKit usability expert Gordon as he shows you how to build a site, step by step. As the webinars only last one hour – we know you guys are as busy as us – we can’t show you everything that BaseKit can do – but don’t worry – a webinar is a two way street – you can ask questions or get clarification on any aspects of BaseKit.
We try to run at least two a week. We hope you can make it to one, but we do know that we have an international user base so timing could be a problem. If so, let us know when you’d like a BaseKit webinar to be run in the comments and we’ll see what we can do!
So, if you are stuck with a widget, or just want a helping hand to get started with BaseKit it’s well worth attending a webinar!
You can sign up for a Webinar right here!

Hello and welcome to the new BaseKit blog!
You may remember the old BaseKit blog over at Basekitblog.co.uk – but this promises to be a whole different animal!
First, let’s get this out of the way – this bit of the site is build in Wordpress. Why? Because currently BaseKit does not have a blog widget. It will, and you can be sure that blog will move over to that when it goes live, but right now we want to get the blog out there and Wordpress is the best blog engine around. So we’re on Wordpress.
We hope that the BaseKit blog is more than a series of dry updates from our dev team about what bugs have been fixed and when updates are coming (this will be included though!) Or occasional reports and fun pictures from team building exercises and office parties. (this will probably be included too!)
We want the blog to be useful to all internet professionals. We have some great articles lined up on design topics – from the very basics of design for those just getting started to great inspirational posts we hope will lead to some great ideas. We have some posts about how to market your site or business online using all manner of tools at your disposal. We have tutorials and how-tos from our experts showing you how to get the best out of BaseKit. And we even have some fun posts, because we know the internet isn’t just for work!
Essentially, we want to write content that is informative, interesting and entertaining to our users.
On Mondays we’ll be updating you about what’s happening behind the scenes at BaseKit – what we’ve been working on, what to expect, where we’ll be (the marketing team like to get out and about) and whether we’re doing anything interesting .
So – here is today’s Monday Update (on Thursday, because we were still working on getting the site up earlier this week!) -
- We have a whole new site! You may have seen it being tested over at basekit.co.uk – but now we’ve taken the plunge and implemented it here too! The site is built on BaseKit and really shows off what it can do. The site was designed by the talented Karl Westin (who also created the lovely image at the top of this post) of Curt Design. We’re really pleased with it!
- Updated undo & redo functions – now easily backtrack on any of your actions in BaseKit, such as text editing
- Template locks – The shared zones in templates are now locked by default to prevent accidental editing. Unlock them in the upper control bar to allow editing!

We recently ran a competition at BaseKit – it was fairly simple – design a site using BaseKit and the best looking one wins a prize. If you missed it, we’re sorry, but it was a closed competition, and there were only ten places. (look out for another design competition in the future though!
The results were amazing – penguins, lifts, flood warnings, music watches and more! It shows how great designers can put BaseKit to work in a variety of different ways. You can see the fruits of their labours here.
By the way – worldmusic.basekit.com won the prize!
While we are on the subject of competitions it’s worth checking out the BaseKit Twitter account – we are running a few competitions and giveaways there too – if you’re feeling lucky you could bag an early Christmas present!
